History of the Harvest Home

Everyone brought along items collected from the harvest, to exhibit, sell and so forth.
The Harvest Home dates back to the late 1800s. For many years it was the main event of the year. Apart from the village, people came from many villages around to watch the sporting events and join in the fun. The music of the roundabouts and chair-a-planes, the calls from the side whoas etc.
There was a children's tea in the afternoon and the exhibits in the marquee. The main event in the afternoon was the tug-o-war.
In the early days it was sometimes held in Townsend field when we would be favoured by the Bishop Sutton Brass Band playing under the large oak.
